WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 96)

Leader: O sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

PEOPLE Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.

Leader: Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the Peoples.

PEOPLE: For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered above all gods.

Leader: For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.

PEOPLE: Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his

sanctuary.

Leader: Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and

strength.

PEOPLE: Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.

Leader: Worship the LORD in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth.

PEOPLE: Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all

that fills it.

INVOCATION

Dear God, our Creator, you call us to love and serve you and our sisters and brothers with hearts, minds and spirits. Open our hearts in compassion and our minds to focus on your message of love and hopefulness and help us as we look to the needs of the church and the world. This we pray in Jesus’ name, Amen

**OPENING HYMN: “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing” Blue #466

CALL TO CONFESSION

We think of ourselves as faithful, but we aren’t always faithful. We think of ourselves as just, but we often are not just. Let us confess our sins together:

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of unending mercy, we come to you in plain confession of our shortsighted and selfish behaviors, our boasting of our good deeds that comes of arrogance and conceit. We deceive ourselves, but not you, oh Great Creator. Forgive us by your mercy and through the example of Jesus, may we be set free.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

By the Grace of God Jesus met death for everyone. Now be assured that Christ who sanctifies and we who are sanctified have all one origin. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken Blue #446

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (APOSTLES CREED Traditional)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his

only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell;

The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the

right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of

Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting.

Amen

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

God, source of all light, by your Word you give light to the soul. Pour out on us the spirit of wisdom and understanding that our hearts and minds may be opened. Amen

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

We give freely from the bounty we have been given by our Gracious God. May what we offer in these moments help to become the very blessing and hope that others need. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
