PRELUDE “Come, Ye thankful People Come”

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 46) Leader: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

PEOPLE: Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;

Leader: There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.

PEOPLE: God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns.

Leader: The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

PEOPLE: He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

Leader: “Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”

PEOPLE: The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

INVOCATION

Most generous God, you have provided for our peoples’ needs in every generation. Look kindly upon us in this troubled age; that your life-affirming abundance from which we have so prospered, and for which we are so thankful, may ensure our well-being as we look to uncertain futures. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

**OPENING HYMN “We Gather Together” Red #376

CALL TO CONFESSION

As we gather to give thanks this week let us remember the difference between heavenly and worldly values. We look to transform our standards of what is important in life, and to strive to know what is perishable and what we treasure as imperishable. Let us confess together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of mercy and forgiveness, we are often ashamed to realize how much we live for possessions and what it takes to acquire them and how little effort we apply to things of the spirit. Help us to conform our priorities to yours, as we hear the words of the prophets and of Jesus Christ, who value justice far above success. In the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen. (a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

As we come before God, we know that he is merciful. As we pray and reach out to God we know that he is just. As we approach God in humble honesty we know that we are forgiven. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE “For the Beauty of the Earth” Red #353

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Living God, help us to hear your holy Word that we may truly understand; that, understanding, we may believe, and, believing, we may follow in all faithfulness and obedience, seeking your honor and glory in all that we do; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

We can hoard the gifts with which you bless us, God of generosity, or we can share them with others. May what we offer in these moments be the very blessing, the very hope, the very peace others need. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

We thank you, our Lord for those gifts to us that we send to you for your work and ours in congregation, community, and culture. Guide us in good use as we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen
