WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 8)

Leader: LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set

your glory above the heavens.

PEOPLE: Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark

because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

Leader: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars

that you have established;

PEOPLE: what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

Leader: Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.

PEOPLE: You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,

Leader: all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

PEOPLE: the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

ALL: O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

INVOCATION

Gracious God, we rejoice in our company here today, to offer our worship and devotion

to you and to the teachings of Scripture. Guide us in our pathways of faith, step by step

in your name and that of our Savior, Jesus Christ,

**OPENING HYMN: “This is My Father’s World” Red #384

CALL TO CONFESSION

In our busy complicated lives, we often discount or overlook our devotion to God and to

our faith. Let us come together as we confess our sins.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, our judge and redeemer, we confess that we have tried to hide from you,

for we have done wrong. We have lived for ourselves, and apart from you. We have

ignored the pain of the world, and passed by the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed.

In your great mercy forgive our sins and free us from selfishness, that we may choose

your will and obey your commandments, through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

A moment for silent personal confession

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Sisters and brothers in faith, we know we are often undeserving, but God always

forgives us, unconditionally and forever. Amen .

HYMN OF PRAISE: “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty” Red #827

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Since we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth,

make us hunger for this heavenly food, that it may nourish us today in the ways of

eternal life; through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen

SERMON MESSAGE Why Do We Do These Things? John Redman, CRE

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

PASSING OF THE PEACE

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostles Creed (Adapted by John Redman)

I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was born of a young peasant woman, trained as a carpenter, and baptized by His cousin John. He taught many, He healed many, and He angered many. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He defeated death and He offers us grace and love in the name of God the Father Almighty; from that time through all time to come. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit; the universal Church of Christ; the Communion of sharing our gifts with others; the forgiveness of our sins; the Grace of God’s love, and that each soul may have life everlasting. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

We give freely from the bounty we have been given by our Gracious God. May what we offer in these moments help to become the very blessing and hope that others need. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

OFFERTORY: “Spirit of God, Unleashed on Earth”

**DOXOLOGY (Traditional)

PRAYER OF THANKS

Lord God, we thank you for these gifts. As we follow in faith, may we find ways to honor you by giving of our treasure, our time and our talents to glorify you and our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
