WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 40)

Leader: I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. PEOPLE He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Leader: Happy are those who make the LORD their trust, who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods. PEOPLE: You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you. Leader: Sacrifice and offering you do not desire, but you have given me an open ear. PEOPLE: Then I said, “Here I am; in the scroll of the book it is written of me. Leader: I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” PEOPLE: I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation

Leader: I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. PEOPLE: Do not, O LORD, withhold your mercy from me; let your steadfast love and your faithfulness keep me safe forever.

INVOCATION

O God, we come together to explore the meaning of our membership in the body of Christ. As we examine ourselves, keep us mindful of the example you have sent to us as the head of your church and ours and guide our reflection of the life of Jesus in our own lives. Amen.

**OPENING HYMN “Baptized in Water” Blue #492

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

Today we baptize James, Richard, and Theodore Phillips, sons of Patrick Phillips and Hanna Zhou Phillips and grandchildren of member Richard Stuart Phillips. James and Richard were born on November 12, 2019, and Theodore was born on October 12, 2022, all in Shenzhen, China.

CALL TO CONFESSION

We often need to be reminded that although we are liberated by the truthful example of Jesus’s message of love and grace, we still fail and fall. Let us come together not only in confessing to our shortcomings, but in wishing for a greater understanding of our Lord. Join me in prayer.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Most merciful God, we admit that even though the truth of Jesus sets us free, we seldom live as truly free people. Forgive us our arrogance and show us how we are utterly dependent upon your grace, knowing that the goodness we possess comes from you and your infinite love. This we pray in the name of Jesus, Amen. (a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Friends in faith, believe the Good News of the Gospels and know that by the love of God our parent and by the grace of Christ our brother and redeemer, we are forgiven. Amen.

**PASSING OF THE PEACE

**APOSTLES CREED (Adapted by John Redman)

I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was born of a young peasant woman, trained as a carpenter, and baptized by His cousin John. He taught many, He healed many, and He angered many. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He defeated death and He offers us grace and love in the name of God the Father Almighty; from that time through all time to come. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit; the universal Church of Christ; the Communion of sharing our gifts with others; the forgiveness of our sins; the Grace of God’s love, and that each soul may have life everlasting. Amen.

**HYMN OF PRAISE “Here I Am, Lord” Blue #525

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS

Today we install Merle Hennessey, David Young and Brittany Brooks-Hannon as Elders and Robert Beams as Deacon to the Class of 2025.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Guide us, O God, by your Word, and Holy Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find freedom, and in your will discover peace; through Christ our Lord, Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

We can hoard the gifts with which you bless us, God of generosity, or we can share them with others. May what we offer in these moments be the very blessing, the very hope, the very peace others need. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
