CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 80)

Leader: Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth PEOPLE: Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved. Leader: God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people's prayers?

PEOPLE: You have fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in full measure. ALL: Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved.

CALL TO CONFESSION

In the final week of our great anticipation, we welcome the birth of Jesus, but still, we need to be mindful of our imperfect nature and how should remain as humble as the shepherds. Let us confess our sins together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Dearest God of compassion, you send forth your spirit, yet we ignore your counsel. We sing of peace on earth yet live in divided times of hostility. Angels herald good tidings yet we commit sinful deeds. Forgive us our deliberate and indirect misuse of your graciousness and make us worthy to receive Christ in our lives.

(a moment for silent personal confession)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

As we turn to God with contrite hearts, Christ intercedes on our behalf. And with that assurance we know that in Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Amen.

**APOSTLES CREED (Traditional)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ

his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on

the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the

quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Holy catholic Church, the

Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, and the

Life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

SERMON Announcing John Redman, CRE

PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE & LORD’S PRAYER

Gracious God, keep in our hearts all those whose names you already know and who ask for healing in their own quiet ways, and let us join to pray as Jesus taught us, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.

BENEDICTION

May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Amen.
