WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 33)
Leader: God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: PEOPLE: Give justice to the weak and the orphan; maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute. Leader: Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." PEOPLE: They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk around in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. Leader: I say, "You are gods, children of the Most High, all of you; PEOPLE: nevertheless, you shall die like mortals, and fall like any prince." ALL: Rise up, O God, judge the earth; for all the nations belong to you!
INVOCATION
Generous God who overwhelms us with goodness and mercy, we thank you for waking us up this day, giving us the gift of this life, calling us to be your people. Look upon us today as you do every day, with love and grace. Amen.
**OPENING HYMN “How Great Thou Art!” Red #21
CALL TO CONFESSION
We read in Romans that all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. Even before a word is on our tongues, God knows it, and welcomes our honest confession and repentance. Let us then with the confidence of the children of God confess our sins.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord of all, we are quick to judge others, certain we know what is weed and what is wheat around us, even as we fail to see within us that which does not bear good fruit. We listen only to those who agree with us and assume your will equates with our own. We confess the many ways we fail to follow your commandment to love you and our neighbors. Forgive us, we pray, for forgetting that everyone is worthy of our compassion. In your mercy, amend what we are and shape us into the people you call us to be. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. (a moment for silent personal confession)
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Friends, the Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. We need not fear God’s judgment but rather rejoice in the Lord’s saving grace that frees and transforms us.
**HYMN OF PRAISE “God Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens” Red #54
**PASSING OF THE PEACE
**AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (adapted by John Redman)
I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was born of a young peasant woman, trained as a carpenter, and baptized by His cousin John. He taught many, He healed many, and He angered many. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He defeated death and He offers us grace and love in the name of God the Father Almighty; from that time through all time to come. I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit; the universal Church of Christ; the Communion of sharing our gifts with others; the forgiveness of our sins; the Grace of God’s love, and that each soul may have life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
God, source of all light, by your Word you give light to the soul. Pour out on us the spirit of wisdom and understanding that our hearts and minds may be opened. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER
And Lord we pray for those in our own hearts whose names you already know, for their own healing and comfort, in your name and that of our redeemer Jesus Christ, who taught to pray, saying:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
Let us all consider what we have been blessed with and how we can best share it with those in greater need, even as we gift our church for its greater work to the Glory of God and the undying love of Jesus.
