Twinkies and Root Beer

Rev. Sandra Larson

Twinkies and Root Beer, Author unknown

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his backpack with Twinkies and a six-pack of Root Beer. When he had walked about three blocks, he arrived at the park and noticed an elderly man feeding pigeons.

The boy sat down next to him and opened his backpack for a snack. The man looked hungry, so he offered him a Twinkie, too.

The man accepted the treat and smiled.

The boy offered him a root beer and the man smiled even more.

They ate and smiled, barely saying a word.

As it grew dark, the boy got up to leave, and gave his new friend a hug.

The man gave him his biggest smile.

When the boy got home, his mother was surprised by his huge smile. She asked, “What made you so happy?” He replied, "I had lunch with God.” Before his mother could respond, he added, “You know what? God has the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!”

Meanwhile, the man returned home. His son was stunned by the joy and peace he radiated, and asked,

“Dad, what happened to you today?”

His dad replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." Before his son had a chance to respond, he added," You know, he's much younger than I expected."
